Beckham confirms Casemiro at Inter Miami and defends Messi

David Beckham, president and co-owner of Inter Miami, came out in defence of Lionel Messi after the lost World Cup final and, at the same time, confirmed Casemiro’s official arrival at the Florida club. The announcement stirred the MLS behind the scenes at a moment when the team returns to the pitch without its two main names, still resting after the wear of the World Cup.

Casemiro arrives with the boss’s blessing

In an Instagram post on July 24, Beckham did not hide his satisfaction with the signing of the Brazilian midfielder. In his message he welcomed Casemiro and his family to Miami, called him a man and a player he has long admired, and thanked him for choosing the city as his new home.

The reinforcement arrives right after a solid 3-2 win over Chicago Fire FC at the Nu Stadium, a result that rekindled the fans’ spirits on the team’s return to MLS. The detail is that Messi and Rodrigo De Paul were not part of it, still recovering from the World Cup marathon.

Beckham shields the Argentine captain

Argentina’s 1-0 defeat to Spain on July 20 sparked a wave of criticism of Messi on social media and in the press. Beckham, however, did not hesitate to defend the star, stressing that Messi is the club’s captain and that they could not be prouder of what he showed at the 2026 World Cup.

It is worth remembering that it was Messi himself who decided the semi-final against England, Beckham’s home country. The Argentine provided two assists, for Enzo Fernández and Lautaro Martínez, in the closing minutes, securing the 2-1 comeback and the Albiceleste’s qualification for the final.

Return scheduled for August

Coach Guillermo Hoyos reinforced the board’s message of patience. He said the club’s leadership, with Beckham and co-owners Jorge and José Mas, has always paid great attention to Messi and De Paul, that they trust them and care deeply, and that the players will return only when they truly feel well in every sense, because everything they went through was extremely draining.

According to Hoyos, the two athletes deserve rest, need it, and will be welcomed back when they are ready and in the best condition to play.

Messi is currently in Rosario, Argentina, with his family. With no official return date released by Inter Miami yet, the expectation is that he will resume training around August 1. Casemiro, for his part, arrives precisely to reinforce the squad in the Leagues Cup, a competition that begins on August 5 and should mark the Brazilian’s reunion with the ball after Brazil’s early elimination in the World Cup round of 16.
