Casemiro leaves United to join Inter Miami

Inter Miami announced the signing of midfielder Casemiro on Wednesday, ending his spell at Manchester United. The Brazilian, a five-time Champions League winner, joins the club owned by Jorge Mas and David Beckham right after representing Brazil at the 2026 World Cup.

A long-term deal

Casemiro has signed through the 2027 MLS Sprint season, with an option to extend until June 2029. Inter Miami, the reigning MLS Cup presented by Audi champions, also acquired the player’s Discover Priority from LA Galaxy. That is an administrative move that helps fit his salary within the North American league’s roster rules.

“What motivates me most, and I believe this is true for any player, is to win and keep growing. The project the club presented to me, together with everyone’s effort to bring me here, means a great deal to me,” the midfielder said in an official statement.

A decorated career in Europe

At 34, Casemiro was a free agent after leaving United. He spent 14 seasons in European football, with notable stints at Real Madrid and FC Porto before joining the Red Devils. A product of São Paulo’s youth academy, the midfielder has 21 career trophies. That haul includes five Champions League titles and three LaLiga crowns with the Spanish giants.

The numbers are striking: 73 goals and 61 assists in 663 club appearances. For Brazil, he has 91 caps, with 10 goals and 6 assists. He has also featured at the last three World Cups and won the 2019 Copa América.

Jorge Mas, Inter Miami’s chairman, was full of praise for the new arrival. “Casemiro’s arrival reflects the vision and ambition that define Inter Miami. We never settle. After winning practically everything in football, his decision to come here shows that he shares our commitment to the highest standards,” he said.

Reunions and a heavyweight dressing room

The midfielder joins an engine room that already features Rodrigo De Paul, a 2022 world champion with Argentina and a former Atlético de Madrid man, now a Designated Player alongside Lionel Messi and Germán Berterame up front. There is a twist of fate here. Casemiro faced Messi many times in clásicos against Barcelona, duels that also pitted him against Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets. Both have since retired after helping Inter Miami lift the 2025 MLS Cup.

There is another direct link too. Casemiro was a teammate of Sergio Reguilón at both Real Madrid and United. The Spanish full-back arrived in Florida last winter as a free agent.

“I am very proud to welcome Casemiro and his family to Inter Miami. I have admired this player for a long time. After an incredible career at Real Madrid and Manchester United, I am delighted he chose Miami as his new home,” said David Beckham, the club’s co-owner.

After the World Cup break, Inter Miami sit second in the Eastern Conference with 31 points. The team is led by Guillermo Hoyos, who took over following Javier Mascherano’s departure in April. Since early April, the Herons have also been playing at Nu Stadium, their first purpose-built home in the city of Miami. You can follow the rest of the season through our football section.
