Casemiro signs with Inter Miami until 2027 and becomes Messi’s teammate
Brazilian midfielder Casemiro signed with Inter Miami on Wednesday, the Major League Soccer club that has Lionel Messi in its squad. At 34 and with five Champions League titles to his name, the player arrives as a free agent and already has a contract secured until the end of 2027, with an option to extend until June 2029.
From Old Trafford to Florida
Before heading to the United States, Casemiro spent four seasons at Manchester United, between 2022 and 2026. In England he added a League Cup and an FA Cup to his résumé. They were not the easiest years of his career — United went through a turbulent phase during that time — but the Brazilian kept his level and left with his head held high.
The most successful chapter, however, was written at Real Madrid. Eight seasons at the Spanish club, 336 matches played, 31 goals, 29 assists and 18 titles won. Few holding midfielders in the world can match such a consistent defensive record over that period.
What drives the move
In an official statement from the club, Casemiro explained what tipped the decision. “What motivates me most, and I believe every player shares this, is to win and keep growing. The project the club presented to me, along with everyone’s effort to bring me here, means a lot to me,” said the player.
The MLS has been attracting increasingly big names in recent years. Messi arrived at Inter Miami in 2023 and raised the league’s visibility to a new level. With Casemiro in midfield, the club strengthens one of the team’s most critical areas: protecting the defense and organizing the middle of the pitch. That is exactly where the Brazilian has always been surgical.
National team and international titles
With the Brazilian national team, Casemiro has played 91 matches. He featured in three World Cups and was one of the key figures in winning the 2019 Copa América. At 34, he will not be at the next World Cup, but he still has plenty to offer: he wants to compete, not just be part of the league. Casemiro is the kind of player who changes the behavior of a group on the pitch.
