FOX dominates coverage of Europe’s big five leagues in Mexico
The ball starts rolling again in the Old Continent from August, and in Mexico it is already settled who will broadcast each of the five leagues most watched by fans: La Liga, the Premier League, Serie A, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1. The novelty is streaming, which has firmly consolidated its place alongside traditional television in the fight for broadcast rights.
Who shows each league in the 2026-27 season
FOX remains the leading player in the European package on the Mexican market. The broadcaster has taken a share of three of the five most relevant competitions, a dominance that reinforces a position established with the country’s fans years ago. The remaining leagues share space with SKY Sports, ESPN and Disney+, in a model no longer limited to a single channel per competition.
Here is how the distribution looks for the new season:
- Premier League: starts on 21 August, on FOX and TNT
- Bundesliga: begins on 28 August, via SKY Sports and FOX
- Serie A: opens on 22 August, between ESPN and Disney+
- Ligue 1: kicks off on 21 August, on FOX and FOX ONE
- La Liga: starts on 15 August, exclusively on SKY Sports
It is worth noting that Ligue 1 gains an extra boost with the launch of FOX ONE, a platform that expands FOX’s own streaming offering and signals where consumption of European football outside the continent is heading.
A model very different from the Mexican format
Unlike Liga MX, where each club maintains its own tie to a broadcaster or app, the European leagues follow another logic abroad: rights are negotiated by territory and, increasingly, sliced between pay TV and streaming services. That fragmentation had already been growing in other sports and is now taking hold in European football sold to the Mexican public as well.
The early calendar is explained by the preliminary qualifying rounds for the continental tournaments. The Champions League, Europa League and Conference League also open early and are, alongside the national leagues, the products most sought after by those following football from outside Mexico.
What last season left behind
Before the break caused by the World Cup, each national league closed its cycle with a champion decided. Arsenal lifted the title in England, Barcelona confirmed their hegemony in Spain, Inter Milan took Italy, Bayern Munich repeated their German dominance and PSG had no rival in France. Those results shape expectations for the new season, which already arrives with a date set and a broadcaster assigned for every match.
