Laimer expects an even stronger Bayern in the hunt for title 36

Konrad Laimer has no doubts: Bayern Munich will improve this season and are aiming at a record 36th German title. The Austrian full-back, whose contract was recently extended to 2029, spoke confidently about the state of the side run by Vincent Kompany, which has already dominated the Bundesliga for two years running.

An almost perfect run

The numbers from last season are striking. Just one defeat, 122 goals scored and only 36 conceded, a defensive mark bettered only by Borussia Dortmund, who let in 34. Bayern also won the DFB-Pokal in May, a cup they had not lifted since 2020, and took the German Super Cup. In 14 seasons the Bavarian club has gone without the national title only once, which again underlines their status as outright favourites.

The Champions League as unfinished business

What is missing, though, is the trophy that irritates the Bavarian support most: the Champions League has eluded them since 2019-2020. In the last edition the team went out in the semi-finals to Paris Saint-Germain, who went on to lift the cup. It is that gap Kompany and his squad are trying to close now, with Laimer among the pillars of the tactical system.

Talk of ambition for the new season

“We are going into our third year with Kompany, and we can still play better football, all together,” Laimer said. “We want to start the season with that mentality. The last one was good, but we can and want to do even more.”

The player also highlighted the club’s internal culture: “We feel it day to day, in training, in the whole environment: at FC Bayern the demand is to win every title. That is what makes it all so special. We are going after everything again.”

The start of the 2026-2027 season already has a date: 22 August, against Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup. A week later the team opens its Bundesliga campaign at home against Stuttgart.
