Laimer promises an even better Bayern in the hunt for title 36
Midfielder Konrad Laimer insists Bayern Munich have the wind to top their own campaign and are aiming at a record 36 German titles. After near-total dominance of the last Bundesliga, the talk inside the dressing room is not about settling but about redoubled ambition.
A season of striking numbers
The recent record speaks for itself. Under Vincent Kompany, Bayern have taken the last two Bundesliga titles and have let the crown slip only once in the last 14 seasons. In the previous campaign they lost just one match in the entire league, an almost perfect return.
The attacking numbers are impressive: 122 goals scored against only 36 conceded, a defensive record bettered only by Borussia Dortmund, who let in 34. Beyond the national trophy, the Bavarian club won the DFB-Pokal in May, ending a drought that had lasted since 2020, and also pocketed the German Super Cup.
The account still to be settled
If domestic dominance is obvious, in Europe the team is still looking to rediscover the ultimate glory. The last Champions League trophy came in 2019-20, and in the last cycle a semi-final exit to Paris Saint-Germain, the eventual champions, left a bitter taste. That gap drives part of the motivation for the new season.
Laimer, who recently extended his contract to 2029, sums up the internal mood frankly. “We are going into our third year with Kompany, and we can still play better football, all together,” the Austrian said in an official club statement. “Last season was good, but we can and want to do even better.”
He added by highlighting the winning culture he perceives day to day. “You feel it every day here, training, surrounded by this environment: the desire to win every title possible at Bayern. That is what makes it all so special. We are going after everything again.”
An opener against heavyweight rivals
The 2026-27 season already has its starting date. On 22 August Bayern face Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup, a fixture that tends to foreshadow the league’s trends. A week later they begin the march to the national title at home to Stuttgart.
With Kompany favourite once again to lift the trophy in May, Laimer’s words sound less like a warning and more like confirmation: the team to beat, once again, will be Bayern themselves.
