Roma lose Summerville to Al Hilal for 70 million
The Italian market remains stuck, and Saudi Arabia has once again shown who calls the shots when it comes to money. Roma had Crysencio Summerville practically wrapped up, but Al Hilal entered the negotiation and swept away any chance of a deal with a salary offer impossible to match.
Al Hilal steamrolls the competition
For days, Roma and West Ham had been talking about the transfer of the Dutchman, born in 2001. The Saudi club, however, offered 15 million euros per season to the player and 70 million to the English side, a figure Roma could never have covered. Even confident in the prior understanding with the athlete, the Roman board insisted until the end, but Summerville opted for the more lucrative destination. The deal is done, and the chapter lays bare a recurring problem: when Saudi petrodollars enter the fray, everyone else becomes a supporting act.
Roma are also swallowing another recent loss. They lost Greenwood to Turkey for around 40 million euros plus bonuses, reinforcing the new axis of power in Turkish football. And they were also left without Alejandro Garnacho, who is heading to Aston Villa after an agreement with Chelsea. Gasperini is now targeting Nusa, Schjelderup and Diego Moreira as attacking alternatives, but the queue for those names is long and competitive.
Juventus stuck over Kolo Muani
In Turin, the scenario is not much different. Juventus have been trying for weeks to convince PSG to lower the price of Randal Kolo Muani, valued at 50 million euros by the French, without success so far. Faced with the impasse, the club is already listing alternatives: Joshua Zirkzee, put on the market by Manchester United themselves, as well as Jean-Philippe Mateta and Alexander Sorloth, both monitored since the winter window.
Milan on the move, Lazio negotiating with Qatar
While the big clubs stall abroad, Milan are betting on youth and reinforcing the base: Comotto, born in 2008, already has a contract lined up until 2031. The Rossoneri are also tracking Axel Disasi, a Chelsea defender valued at just under 30 million euros and also linked to Roma. On the other side of the city, Inter have completed the signing of Milani, a 2005 midfielder arriving from Lazio on a permanent transfer, with the Romans securing a percentage of any future resale. Still on the Nerazzurri radar are Spence, Romero and Liverpool’s Curtis Jones.
Meanwhile, the negotiation between Lazio and Al Sadd for Alessio Romagnoli remains stalled. The war in the Middle East has blocked part of the Qatari club’s budget, forcing the parties to study a staggered payment to unlock the deal. Finally, Como made official the renewal of Lucas Da Cunha until 2031, a breath of stability amid a market that, for Italian clubs, remains harder than expected.
