Italy’s transfer window opens on June 29 and closes on September 1

The European summer market came into effect this Monday, June 29, with the official opening of the transfer window in Italy. Serie A, B and C have until 8 p.m. on September 1 to complete deals. The race for signings starts now.

How the Italian calendar works

The Italian window is one of the first to open on the continent. Clubs from the country’s first, second and third divisions can already register new players, terminate contracts and formalize loans. The deadline, set for 8 p.m. local time on September 1, is the same for all three divisions – with no distinction by category.

In practice, this means that teams like Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan have a little over two months to reshape their squads. A deadline that looks generous on paper, but tends to become suffocating in the final weeks, when the market speeds up and negotiations multiply.

The other major European leagues and their deadlines

Each country has its own logic. The Premier League was the earliest, opening as soon as June 15, giving English clubs a considerable time advantage over their continental rivals. The closing deadline, however, is the same: September 1, at 11:59 p.m. UK local time.

La Liga and Ligue 1 open on July 1. The Spanish federation closes at 11:59 p.m. on September 1; the French close earlier, at 8 p.m. on the same day. The Bundesliga follows a calendar identical to France’s – opening on July 1, closing at midnight on September 1.

Saudi Arabia as a market factor

In recent years, the Saudi Pro League has begun to directly interfere with European negotiations. The Saudi window runs from July 22 to October 12 – a much more elastic calendar, which often triggers late moves and forces European clubs to make decisions under pressure. Players who seemed headed for a European team end up in the Middle East. It happens more than fans imagine.
