NAVI wins IEM Atlanta 2026 and pockets US$1 million in a tournament comeback

NAVI wins IEM Atlanta 2026 and pockets US$1 million in a tournament comeback

From May 11 to 17, Atlanta hosted one of the busiest tournaments of the CS2 season. Sixteen teams competed for a US$1,000,000 prize pool and, along the way, delivered far more than a simple race for VRS ranking points. IEM Atlanta 2026 worked as a collective testing ground before the major in Cologne – and not everyone came out unscathed.

Group stage: upsets, early exits and the duel of the GOATs

The most anticipated clash of the opening phase was Vitality against BC.Game. On one side, Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, the best player of recent CS2 history. On the other, Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev, a CS:GO icon trying to reclaim his place in tier-1. BC.Game even reinforced the roster with Azbayar “Senzu” Munkhbold, one of the best riflers in Asia. It was not enough. Vitality won in two maps and sent their opponents to the lower bracket, where they were eliminated by B8.

Group A also held another surprise: BetBoom took down Vitality itself in the group stage. The French team recovered afterward, eliminating FaZe Clan and B8 to secure a playoff spot. FUT Esports, meanwhile, exited earlier than expected – they beat NRG in their debut but fell to paiN and B8 in succession.

In Group B, NAVI were the clear favorites, but lost the upper-bracket final to Legacy (2-1), the Brazilian team that reached the semifinals after overcoming M80 and Astralis along the way. Another relevant data point: GamerLegion advanced at their second consecutive tier-1 tournament, which is starting to sound like a pattern rather than chance.

Playoffs: NAVI avenge recent losses and brush aside Vitality

In the quarterfinals, Natus Vincere and Vitality met again – and this time the result was different. The Ukrainian team ended an almost four-year drought without beating the French in an elimination series, reversing losses in the finals of BLAST Open Rotterdam 2026 and BLAST Rivals 2026 Season 1. NAVI’s win was precise. No room for drama.

In the semifinals, BetBoom – the tournament’s surprise – could not keep up the pace. NAVI settled it 2-0, dry and efficient. On the other side of the bracket, GamerLegion got past paiN and Legacy, winning both series 2-1, and secured a place in the grand final.

Final and MVP: w0nderful leads the sweep over GamerLegion

The grand final was a rematch that had already happened in the group stage, but with a completely different outcome. NAVI swept GamerLegion 3-0. The tensest map was Nuke, where the Germans had as many as five match points in their favor – NAVI turned it around in overtime. Ice in the trigger finger.

The tournament MVP was Ihor “w0nderful” Zhdanov. It is the first relevant individual award of the Ukrainian AWPer’s career. He closed out the competition with a 1.31 rating, alternating between the rifle and the AWP with rare consistency throughout the entire week. The historical symbolism is also worth noting: it was the first time NAVI had won an IEM tournament on North American soil since 2015.

In the third-place match, Legacy beat BetBoom and ended the tournament on a high. Rifler Bruno “latto” Rebelatto closed the series with a 2.11 rating – a number that makes any opponent lose sleep. With the Cologne major in sight, the Atlanta results will weigh on the tactical reading of every qualified team.
