After the World Cup, the big European leagues return in August

With the World Cup over, the world football calendar enters a new phase. From August, the planet’s main leagues resume their disputes – and the race for titles begins early for those who want to still be standing at the end of the season.

Europe: each league has its own starting moment

The first to raise the curtain is La Liga, with its debut set for 15 August. The Spanish championship tends to set the tone of the European season, and the opening rounds usually already reveal title contenders.

Next, the Premier League and Ligue 1 take to the field on 21 and 22 August respectively, alongside Italy’s Serie A. Three of the world’s most watched competitions kick off almost at the same time – a hectic week for any fan who does not want to miss a thing.

The Bundesliga enters the fray on 28 August, giving German football an extra week of pre-season. A detail that could make a difference in the opening rounds.

Champions League is already rolling

Anyone who thinks the Champions League waits for August to begin is mistaken. The pre-qualifying stages have been underway since 7 July. The league phase, however, only starts on 8 September – and that’s when the tournament takes on its full continental dimension, with the big clubs entering the fray for good.

In Brazil, the ball is already rolling

Brazilian football did not have to wait. The Brasileirão resumed even before the end of the World Cup, keeping up the rhythm of one of the most intense leagues on the South American calendar. The Copa do Brasil, in turn, will have its next stage decided from 1 August, bringing more pressure on clubs fighting on multiple fronts.

In short: for the fan, August is not a month of waiting. It is the month when everything begins all at once.
