Diomande confirms departure from RB Leipzig and sets off alarm bells at the club

Ivorian striker Yan Diomande, 19, made it clear in a press conference that he does not intend to stay at RB Leipzig after the World Cup. While the German board tries to cool down the rumors of a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, the player himself is already mentally putting together his farewell.
The player speaks – and contradicts the club
On the eve of Ivory Coast’s clash against Norway in the World Cup round of 16, Diomande got straight to the point when asked about his future: “I hope to leave, of course. I have an agent who will take care of the rest.” Words that contrast with the stance of sporting director Marcel Schäfer, who days earlier had publicly ruled out any movement and guaranteed that the club has no intention of negotiating the striker.
The gap between the institutional discourse and the athlete’s wishes rarely ends well for whoever holds on to the player. Leipzig knows this.
PSG in the crosshairs – and a calculated silence
The French club’s name is circulating strongly behind the scenes of the European market. PSG, which has already shown an appetite for young African talents – just recall the recent signings of similar profiles -, has reportedly been monitoring Diomande for months. The Ivorian said he does not follow social media, with no Instagram or TikTok, but acknowledged being aware of the speculation around his name.
It is no coincidence that he left the agent as a shield to filter the details. It is well-done image management for a 19-year-old boy in the middle of a continental tournament.
World Cup first, contract later
Diomande was emphatic: the immediate focus is the Ivory Coast national team. The game against Norway, scheduled for this Tuesday, represents much more than a simple knockout tie – it is the chance for a teenager to write his own name into the history of African football. Any negotiation is left for later.
Leipzig, for now, insists on holding on to the player. But when an athlete already speaks openly about leaving, the window rarely closes without a transfer.
