Transfer window open: Modrić, Tzolis and Neco Williams on the big clubs’ radar

The summer transfer window is officially open, and even with the football world focused on the World Cup, the backrooms of European clubs are buzzing. Negotiations advance quietly, target lists are already drawn up and the first significant moves are beginning to take shape.
Arsenal eye Brugge forward to replace Trossard
The Gunners are weighing up a bid for Christos Tzolis, Club Brugge’s left winger. The 23-year-old Greek had a brilliant season in Belgian football, establishing himself as one of the league’s most dangerous players, and has a spell in the Premier League with Norwich City behind him – which would ease his adaptation should the transfer go through.
Arsenal’s motivation to seek reinforcement in the position is not new. Leandro Trossard, a starter on the left flank of the attack, is an openly declared target of Beşiktaş. If the Belgian leaves, Tzolis emerges as a ready-made option with a theoretically lower acquisition cost than rivals of the same profile. The club has not yet formalised any bid, but the interest is real.
Modrić set to stay at Milan; future to be decided soon
At 39, Luka Modrić still sparks debate. The Croatian’s deal with AC Milan expired at the end of June, but all signs indicate the midfielder will not hang up his boots – at least not yet. According to available information, Rúben Amorim wants to keep the former Real Madrid man for another season.
Modrić staying would be more than symbolic. With top-level experience in the Champions League and World Cup, he offers the Milan squad something hard to quantify: technical leadership on the pitch. The final decision is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Neco Williams becomes a target for two English giants
Manchester United and Newcastle United are competing for the preference of Neco Williams, Nottingham Forest’s full-back. The 25-year-old Welshman was an almost automatic presence in the Nottingham side last season and stands out for his versatility: he can play on both the right and the left of the defence.
For United, strengthening the defensive flanks is a priority. The club is going through a broad restructuring process, and a young player with Premier League rhythm and an affordable price compared to the current market fits well into the profile sought. Newcastle, in turn, also need options in the sector after recent departures. The battle for Williams’ services promises to heat up in the coming weeks.
