Milan did not pursue Mason Mount – rumour of an offer has no basis

Mason Mount’s name circulated in the Italian press linked to AC Milan, but the story has no support. There was no contact whatsoever between the Rossoneri club and the circle of the Manchester United midfielder. Sources close to the player were direct: the supposed offer to Milan caught everyone by surprise – and does not correspond to reality.

Where the rumour came from – and why it gained traction

The trigger for the speculation was Rubén Amorim’s arrival at Milan. The Portuguese coach, who managed United until recently, was a declared admirer of Mount at Old Trafford. He even publicly praised the player after a performance against Wolves at Molineux, saying he was able to “defend and attack” and that he had become a reference in the dressing room for his example on the pitch. It was natural for the Italian press to stitch this connection together and sketch out a reunion scenario.

The problem is that scenario and reality are different things. Mount is in Spain at the moment, training with an individual fitness coach before returning to Carrington for pre-season. No sign that he has his bags packed.

Mount remains in United’s plans – and the season looks promising

The club has entered a kind of silent rebuild, and the Portsmouth-born midfielder is part of that process. Michael Carrick, now in charge, has no doubts about the player’s role. “I really like Mason, and he is an important player for this team and this club,” the coach declared.

Mount made his first start under Carrick in the final stretch of last season, against Sunderland, and returned to the starting eleven in the championship’s closing match against Brighton. A minor injury, suffered after Carrick’s second game in the dugout, had kept the midfielder out of action until mid-March – but he found form in the following months.

In terms of output, the first half of last season was Mount’s most consistent in a United shirt. He found the net against Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Wolves, functioning well within Amorim’s system. Now, with four competitions ahead – Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup – the club will need a rotated squad. Mount is part of that calculation as a senior piece. The 2026/27 season begins without him on his way out.
