Premier League 2026/27 reveals the 380 fixtures of the season

The full Premier League 2026/27 calendar was published this week, and the 20 clubs of English football’s elite now know when, where and against whom they will play. The season starts on 21 August 2026 and ends on 30 May 2027 – one week before the UEFA Champions League final, scheduled for 5 June.

Why the season starts later than usual

Compared to the 2025/26 edition, the Premier League pushes back kick-off by a week. The decision is not random. With the FIFA World Cup 2026 squeezing the global calendar, the English league decided to prioritise players’ rest. The new schedule guarantees 88 days between the end of the previous season and the start of the new one, plus 32 days after the World Cup final.

That is no small matter. Modern football demands more and more from players – expanded club tournaments, an inflated international calendar, FIFA international windows that keep growing. The pressure on athletes’ bodies is at a historic high, and the leagues are starting to react.

The season in numbers

There are 33 weekends of competition and five midweek rounds. During the Christmas and New Year period, no round will be played with less than 60 hours’ gap from the previous one – a commitment the league made to the clubs to ease the December and January marathon.

To arrive at this grid, the Premier League takes almost six months of work. The process of building the calendar involves scheduling 2,036 matches across the four main divisions of English football – a logistical exercise that goes far beyond drawing fixtures.

For Fantasy Premier League fans, the moment is now

The release of the fixtures also gives the green light to those who play Fantasy Premier League. The official game will still be formally relaunched during the European summer, but the Fixture Difficulty Ratings (FDR) – the difficulty assessments of each matchup – are already available. With them, FPL managers can begin to map which players and which teams to target in the opening rounds, and which to avoid.

It is the start of another cycle. Three hundred and eighty games, nine months, twenty clubs. The season has not started yet, but the contest, in practice, is already under way.
