Vinícius Júnior apologises to Brazil after elimination by Norway

The frustration could not be kept in silence. Days after watching Brazil be eliminated by Norway in the World Cup round of 16, Vinícius Júnior used Instagram to speak out and apologise to the fans. Four years after the last World Cup disappointment, the Real Madrid forward found himself facing the same void.
The message and the weight of the words
“Almost four years later, I find myself again thinking about what to write after a World Cup disappointment,” said the forward in the post. He admitted he had needed a few days to gather his thoughts before going public. The choice to wait, rather than speak in the heat of the moment, already says a lot about the player’s emotional state.
In the text, Vinícius was direct: “The feeling of frustration is enormous.” He acknowledged the squad had what it took to go far beyond the round of 16, apologised and promised to keep fighting for the dream of seeing Brazil at the top of world football. “I know how much I prepared, how focused I was and how much I wanted this for you and for my family,” he wrote.
Four goals were not enough
The number 7 was the Seleção’s main man in the tournament. He scored four times and provided one assist in the five games played. With Rodrygo and Estêvão out through injury even before the competition began, and with Raphinha and Lucas Paquetá limited by physical problems during the tournament, the responsibility fell heavily on his shoulders. He carried it. But it was not enough.
Against Norway, it was Erling Haaland who decided. The Norwegian centre-forward found the net twice and sent Carlo Ancelotti and his team packing. Brazil, chasing a sixth title since 2002, will have to wait at least until 2030 – which would mean 28 years without a title should they win it at the next edition.
The CBF keeps Ancelotti in the job
The early elimination did not shake the plans of the Brazilian Football Confederation. The Seleção’s coordinator, Rodrigo Caetano, made clear that the work with Ancelotti continues until the 2030 World Cup. “Let us have at least a minimum of calm to move forward and prepare for the next World Cup,” he stated. The message was one of continuity – and a request for patience.
For Vinícius, the mission now is to return to Real Madrid, digest the pain and recharge. He is 24. He will probably have other chances. But every World Cup passes too fast, and Brazil knows that better than anyone.
