Nikita Buyanov reveals ambitious details of Fragmentary Order

The co-founder of Escape from Tarkov, Nikita Buyanov, has opened up about the next project from his new studio, Rant Gaming. Fragmentary Order is a space-set extraction shooter, with maps five times larger than those of Tarkov and a vision that goes well beyond a simple reimagining of the title that made his name.

A universe far bigger than Tarkov

Buyanov made it clear that the new game is not just “Tarkov in space.” The scale is different. The maps promise to be enormous – roughly five times the size of a typical Tarkov location – and will cover settings on Earth, on Venus, on space stations and in other environments. The first map revealed, called Blue Mars, shows a partially terraformed Mars, with an aesthetic that blends science fiction and scientific plausibility.

The developer stressed that Fragmentary Order is built on a realistic vision of humanity’s future, not pure fantasy. The idea is to construct a believable universe, close to what science and space geopolitics could actually produce.

Long sessions, vehicles and freedom of choice

One of the most significant changes compared to Tarkov is the session model. Instead of the original shooter’s quick, tense raids, Fragmentary Order bets on one-to-two-hour matches. And more: players are not required to extract. Extraction becomes an option, not a demand. That completely changes the pacing and the psychological pressure that defines the genre.

Drivable vehicles have also been confirmed – an element that widens the tactical possibilities and reinforces the open-world feel. The game is categorized as PvPvE, but at launch there will be a mode focused exclusively on PvE, designed both for Tarkov veterans and for those who have never touched an extraction shooter.

When does it reach the public?

Buyanov gave no precise date for early access, but signaled that the first playable build is close. The studio wants the initial experience to be solid and accessible. Considering that the project’s official reveal happened in March, the development pace looks fast for a big-budget game.

Fragmentary Order carries the weight of a complex legacy: Tarkov is one of the most influential extraction shooters of the past decade, but also one of the most controversial in terms of management and communication with its community. Buyanov has a second chance. And, from what has been shown so far, he seems determined not to waste it.
